Monopoly is a classic board game that people of all ages enjoy, but it can be tough to learn to play. The rules are complicated, and many families have variations not specific to the official rules. Learning to set up the board, follow the official rules and complete the game on time will teach you to love Monopoly. Read this Monopoly Game Review.
Setup
- Place the tray on a table.
- Chance and Community Chest cards face down on the allotted slots on the board.
- Each player chooses a piece to represent when he is on the board.
Playing Style
- From the banker, each player rolls the dice. The player with the highest amount starts the game.
- Then each player places their pawn in the corner marked “GO,” rolls the dice, and moves the number of spaces indicated by the dice.
- The play remains in the occupied squares and continues during the player’s next turn.
- The roll is invalid if two dice fall off the board or rest on a deck. Roll them up again.
Features
Keep reading this Monopoly Game Review to get familiar with the features and playing style of the game.
The Bank
The bank pays salaries and bonuses. The bank collects all taxes, fines, loans, and interest on the price of all properties it sells and auctions.
The banks cannot break. When the bank has cash problems, the banker can spend as much as he needs by writing on plain paper.
Go
When a player’s piece falls or goes to GO, either rolling the dice or drawing a card, the banker pays that player a payout of $200.
But $200 is only paid once on board. If a player who passes “GO” by rolling the dice falls two spaces back in “Community Breasts” or seven spaces back in “Chance” and draws the “Advance to GO” card, he receives $200 for the first time and the second time, another $200 to reach according to the instructions.
Buy Property
You can buy it at the bank’s printed price if you land without an owner. You will receive a document with proof of ownership.
If you do not want to buy the property, the bank will sell it to the highest bidder through an auction. The buyer pays the bank the amount of the offer in cash and gets the asset. All players, including those who rejected the call option at the printed price, can bid, and auctions can start at any cost.
Pay the Rent
If you land on another player’s property, the landlord will charge you the rent stated on the property deed.
Keeping all the joints in one color group is advantageous, as the landlord can take double the rent for unproved properties in that color group. This rule applies to non-mortgaged properties, even if another property in this color group mortgage.
Box of Happiness and Fellowship
If you end up in one of these slots, take the top card from the designated pack and read the instructions. Place the card face down on the bottom of the deck.
The “Get out of jail” card is kept until used and returned to the bottom of the deck. If the player who draws it does not want to use it, they can sell it to another player at a mutually acceptable price.
Income Tax
When you land on income tax, there are two possibilities:
- If you are sent to jail, you must go straight to jail, and you cannot get a $200 salary. Your shift also ends when you are sent to prison.
- If you are not “sent to jail” but land in this place during play, visit “only” and continue the next time you go.
Free Parking
It’s just a “free” resting place, so the player who lands there does not receive money, property, rewards, or penalties. Try to avoid getting there early in the game, but it can be a great goal later in the session.
Houses and Hotels
If a player owns all the properties in a color group, he can buy a house from the bank. He can buy as many homes as the criteria and financial situation allows. But he cannot have more than one house on a colored plot until he has built a house on each space in the group.
The landlord always receives double rent from an opponent who has unimproved properties for his entire color group. Suppose a player has four houses in each party in a color group. He can buy a hotel and build it on a large part of the color group.
Building Shortages
If the bank does not have houses to sell, players who want to build must wait until they return or sell their homes to the bank before they build.
If a few houses and hotels are available and two or more players want to buy more than the bank, the houses/hotels are auctioned to the highest bidder.
Real Estate Sales
The improved property, rail, and tools sell to all players as a private transaction for whatever owner can receive. However, the properties cannot sell to another player if the buildings belong to that color group.
End of The Game
Concrete players must withdraw from the game, and the last player in the game is the winner.
